Pelion Peanut Party

We had a great weekend of events and support for our campaign is continuing to grow! I spent Saturday morning in Pelion with some great supporters who walked with me in the Peanut Party Parade. After the parade, I got to enjoy some of South Carolina’s state snack food – boiled peanuts – while visiting dozens of vendor stalls and exhibitions. A great military heritage club had a display of vintage military equipment and weapons that I really enjoyed.

From Pelion we traveled to Barnwell for a tour of the Chem-Nuclear Systems facility with Barnwell County Council Chairman Thomas Williams. We capped everything off with a great rally in Salley, SC. Check out some pictures below:

Aiken House Party

On Monday I was lucky enough to meet with a group of committed supporters in Aiken at the home of Charles and Elaine Brown.  Like a lot of South Carolinians, my new friends were focused on how to get our economy jump-started again.  Aiken is fortunate to have the Savannah River Site nearby, and the opportunity to provide thousands of new jobs while expanding a clean, efficient source of power.  Tomorrow I will release my economic development plan, I will always fight for South Carolina’s families, not Wall Street bankers and special interests.

Beaufort Memorial Day Service

Beaufort National Cemetery is a solemn place created to honor the brave men and women who gave the full measure of devotion to our nation, and today at noon, we gathered there in their honor.  Leading our nation’s men and women in combat is the highest honor I’ve received.  We say, “Freedom is not free,” and to those heroes who lost their lives to protect us here at home and their families, we can only say thank you.

I hope you had an opportunity to thank someone for their service to our country.  Please take a moment of silence to thank all the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives, so we may prosper as a nation.  They may be gone, but they will never be forgotten.

Beaufort Memorial Day Parade

In addition to being my home, Beaufort is where I both started and finished my Marine Corps career, so the Memorial Day parade here is special to me.  Unsurprisingly for a community that’s home to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, and Beaufort Naval Hospital, military families and supporters turned out in a big way and braved a soggy morning in honor of our fallen heroes.

Aiken Memorial Day

It was beautiful in Aiken today and wonderful to see so many folks turned out for the annual Memorial Day parade.  The Marine Corps League in Aiken does an outstanding job organizing the parade, and the 2010 edition featuring grand marshal Col Eddie S. Ray, USMC (Ret.) was no different.  It was exciting to meet so many veterans out in honor of those who gave all.  Thank you to the dedicated volunteers who joined me on the parade route.
