Abandoned by Uber driver, STILL charged full price. by infuriated time hopper

This past Saturday evening I requested an Uber pick up from the hotel my friends and I were staying at, this happened around 10:15 PM. After waiting 15 minutes the driver, Cuong, called twice telling me he couldn't find us. He said a street was closed and he had no idea how to get to us. In the middle of the second call he hung up and charged me, without EVER reaching the pick up point. Somehow, I am being charged for the trip he took to try and find us instead of him actually driving us anywhere. We had to wait another 20 minutes for a shuttle to drive us. After reporting this to customer care I was told 4 times that "based on previous rides" that it was likely I took this trip. I can guarantee I did NOT take this trip considering the starting and end location were NOWHERE near the hotel we were at! Countless messages where I throughly explained how this was an inconceivable pick up and drop off were disregarded by customer service and I was told they'd be closing the case without any effort actually exerted by the company. I will have to dispute the charge with my bank and also cancel any relationship I currently have with this terrible ride service. It's a shame the good drivers will have to miss out on fares and income due to Cuong's lack of direction and customer services lack of, well, customer service at the very least. Not a surprise the overall company and app has MAYBE 1.5 stars.

Terrible service by Naedeon

On many occasions my Uber app will freeze or the time is inaccurate and my ride would come and I would not be aware of it and I get charged a cancellation fee. Also when I request an Uber the time would say 7mins for example which is do-able for me then it changes to 14 mins which is way too long and I have to cancel but get charged a cancellation fee b/c the app gave me two different times. Also, one time I had caught an uber pool and there were two other people there as well usually it's one other person and if it's two their together. So the lady had to drop all three of us off. She drop the one girl off then dropped the guy off so I'm thinking I'm next but then the app tell her to pick someone else up. She picked her up dropped her off I am still in the car my trip should have taken me 7 mins but took 30 mins instead. She had to turn the uber app off b/c it was telling her to pick people off instead of dropping me off. On top with of that I had my son with me who was hungry b/c it took us so long to get home. On top of that when you take an uber pool sometime the other passenger is not on the way to where you going.

great! Another update. by a student and reviewer

We update the app as often as possible to remove all of its negative reviews and fool more people into getting and using uber. Check back next week to see the latest way that we exploit our drivers, incentivizing them to work long hours without developing any new skills or educating themselves, all the while using the profits we make off of our drivers' hard work to steal self-driving car secrets from google so that we can deploy a fleet of self-driving cars in 10 years (or less), thereby rendering our drivers, who have spent 10 driving driving and making loads of money for us, totally redundant to the workforce and thus unemployed (and unemployable). Oh, also we track your location when not using the app, and we don't let you tip your driver without cash.

Uber is always available. So whenever you’re ready to drive, all you have to do is open the app and tap Go Online.

The driver application can be downloaded to your personal device by navigating to the URL in your phone’s web browser (Safari or Chrome). Either click on this link while you’re on your phone, or type into your phone’s web browser address bar.

    How much does the uber app costHow much does the uber app cost

    Apps are taking over the mobile ecosystem; it is neither a revelation nor a noble insight. It is a fact, supported by astronomical trends every year. The people who have caught on the trend a couple of years ago are millionaires today and with the extent of the untapped market out there, those who would catch the trend today will be millionaires tomorrow.

    We always question our ideas whenever they knock – is it something somebody has never done? I assert, it’s the wrong question. Instead, we should ask ourselves – Can I do it better than somebody has ever done it before?

    Creativity is seeing what everyone else has seen, and thinking what no one else has thought

    If you are among the tech savvy and app enthusiasts of the world, chances are that you must have heard about Uber and the revolution it brought in the cab hire market. If you are among the people who believe they can do better than what Uber did or do something like what Uber did, but in a different market/ industry, I think you should read on.

    We have been hearing praises from in and out of the company about the app for sometime now. It was high time we split it apart to know what Uber really has.

    As you already know, Uber is a Smartphone app that connects passengers to drivers with vehicles for hire. Passengers select the class of car they want to ride, the location they want to be picked up from and the location they want to be dropped.

    Uber provides five different categories of cars, viz; The Black Car, The Uber Taxi, UberX, SUV, and LUX. The names pretty much are self-explanatory.

    Through the analysis we did of Uber, we came to know some interesting insights about the app and also about how Uber functions as a business. One of the facts that marries Uber as an app and Uber as a business is the dual app structure the company follows for the customers and drivers.

    Uber functions on the basis of two apps, one is for the customer which we get at the app stores and the other one is for the drivers, pre-installed in the iPhones that Uber gives to the cab drivers registered with Uber.

    The customer’s app or the app ‘we’ see has a plethora of features, most of which get unnoticed but still making our lives easier. There is a sign-up/login feature along with a link to your payment methods (credit cards), map view, pick-up/drop location choice, fare quote and many others.

    The features that stand out to me are the Uber Pool, Split fare and share my ETA.

    With UberPool, users can share a ride—and split the cost—with another person who just happens to be requesting a ride along a similar route, saving up to 50% off your regular uber ride. Using split fare, you can split the fare among their friends. Users can share their ETA (Estimated time of arrival) with their friends using the share my ETA option.

    Uber’s driver app has all the necessary features that ensure a safe and seamless ride to the customer. Apart from the login, the drivers have to create a full profile to start operating. They have an option to accept a trip, request for a trip and order cancellation with reasons. They even have an option to rate the rider, making it even and enriched experience for both the drivers and the customers using Uber.

    Uber is currently valued at a whopping $ 18.2 billion, which compels us to believe that there are quite a few things the company is doing right and better than everybody else. While every feature of Uber mesmerizes the user, I have tried to list down a few notable ones for you.

    The location fetching of Uber is excellent with a minimal utilization of power in the background. The integration of maps into use, without hampering the flow of the app and the latest option of surge pricing through which Uber tries to provide us with rides even on the busiest days, albeit at a higher price.

    With the deluge of features that Uber offers within a seamlessly functioning and beautifully designed app, it makes us wonder how much money would it cost to build another Uber today?

    Our panel of experts at OpenXcell have developed more than 500 apps till date and they sliced down Uber for you this time. We have created a well-researched white paper, accounting even for the latest features, calculating the cost you would incur if you try to build Uber, today with us. I urge you to have a look at the .

    Uber is a ride sharing app that connects passengers with drivers. With a presence in over 40 countries and over 100 cities around the world, Uber lets you privately hire a driver at an affordable price with just one click.

    Uber is an alternative to regular taxis; instead of hailing a cab on the street or booking one over the phone, this app lets you to order a private driver with the click of a button.

    With Uber, you can choose between five categories of vehicles ranging from economy (uberX) to luxurious (LUX), although these options aren't available in every city.

    Before ordering a driver, you can get a quote by entering your starting point and your destination. While it's only an estimate, it's pretty accurate to what you'll pay.

    Unlike traditional taxis, payment is done solely through the app. You can pay by credit card, PayPal, or Google Wallet, and even split the bill with your fellow travelers. You can also use codes to get discounts on a journey.

    After the trip, Uber lets you to rate the service and leave a comment that can be accessed by other users. Note that drivers can also leave comments about their clients.

    To use Uber, you must first register for the service. You'll need to enter your personal information (name, email address, phone number, and bank details or PayPal account), as well as set up a password. Once connected, a map appears with your location.

    Calling a driver is very simple. Using geolocation, Uber automatically detects where you are and offers a pick-up point. This can also be set manually on the map. Then, all you have to do is press the button to call a driver; the one closest to you will be notified of your request. If the driver accepts, you will receive an SMS with confirmation. Thanks to geo-location, you'll also be able to follow the driver in real time on the map as he makes his way.

    Everything is done directly through the app, so you'll never have to call or worry about having enough cash on you to pay, and the service is generally much better and more personal than your regular taxi service.

    There's a reason why Uber angers traditional taxi drivers: the service appeals to a lot of people because it's easy to use, is more personal than getting a taxi, and has very affordable rates.

    How old do you have to be to become an Uber driver?

    You'll need to be at least 21 years old to drive for Uber (and 18 just to use the service).

    How do I get the cheapest Uber ride?

    The price is the same no matter which driver picks you up. Just make sure to order a basic UberX and not one the luxury options. Prices increase when demand peaks, so delaying your journey to a less popular travel time can save money.

    How can I verify that the person who showed up is my Uber driver?

    Ask the driver "Who are you here to pick up?" Your real driver will know the name on your Uber account.

    How long before my appointment time do I need to call Uber?

    When you view the app it shows how far away your closest driver is at that time, gauge accordingly. If you're in a highly populated area you only need request 5-10 min in advance. In rural areas there may not be a driver available so you should have a back-up plan.

    Can I set up a round trip with Uber?

    No, you cannot book your ride back in advance. You'll need to order a second car on the way back, or pay your first driver to wait outside if you're making a quick stop.

    Can I use a debit card for Uber payments?

    Not all debit cards are compatible with the billing system. If you get an error message while trying to add the info, you'll need to find a different option.

    How are drivers vetted and certified?

    Uber runs background checks on its drivers, but it has been criticized for not being thorough enough. An ordinary taxi driver typically undergoes a more detailed background check, but this varies between locations.

    Can I book a car from the Uber website instead of the app?

    Can I request an Uber at any time?

    Yes. Uber operates 24/7. That said, more drivers will be online during busy periods. It's not unusual to find no drivers available in the middle of the night in less populated areas.

    How can I call for two or more Uber cars?

    Each Uber account can only request one car. Someone else in your party will need to order the second car from another Uber account.

    How Much Does it Cost to Build a Taxi Booking App Like Uber?

    Uber is a world known application from Uber Technologies Inc. It has started as a small project and then evolved into a popular taxi booking app. Now Uber is available in more than 50 countries around the globe. The stunning success of this app makes other entrepreneurs want to repeat it.

    The Uber’s strongest thing is that it provides communication between a taxi driver and a passenger, offering easy-to-use cab service. In this article we will try to answer two main questions: how to build a mobile taxi application and how much it may cost.

    How much does the uber app cost

    First of all, it is necessary to choose the way of taxi app development – hybrid or native one. Hybrid applications are based on cross-platform technologies. Still, they aren’t so good as native ones in terms of performance and reliability. And furthermore, native applications have access to all system components of a device, like geolocation (which is crucial for a taxi booking app), camera, contacts, calendar, etc.

    Building a native application is needed in order to be able to write app compatible with a specific device (iPhone, for example). With no doubt, Android and iOS platforms are market-leaders so the app has to be developed for those systems.

    The chief point about taxi booking app development like Uber is that it has to satisfy both parties – a taxi driver and a client. So two subcomponents(apps) for one taxi booking system have to be built.

    The app for a driver has to have such features as:

    • The registration system;
    • Be able to work with requests (accepting and declining);
    • Driver rating system;
    • Status updating (if the driver is available or not).

    A client-side application will be more complex, because a customer usually need to do more steps while booking a cab. So the features of this app have to be as follows:

    • The registration system;
    • Driver Info page (cab info, rating, availability, etc.);
    • The price calculator;
    • The payment system;
    • Booking history;
    • Notification system.

    “Technical” features, like app analytics, should be included as well. For a client it will be helpful because there he will see how much money did he spend on a taxi as well as driver will see how much money did he earn for a particular time period.

    UX/UI design of the app is important, since the application should look native to a user and be ergonomic. Both versions of the app (for a driver and a customer) need a map to see where the nearest client(or driver) is.

    You may ask what if we will try to develop kind of a Uber clone. For sure, it will not work. Your app has to have something different that will provide your customers with an advantage. There are taxi service applications in the market, like Lyft and Grab. However, Lyft is available in the United States only and Grab in China.

    These applications are focused on the location factor and it makes them popular and able to compete with Uber. The strategies of those companies were successful. Lyft was founded in 2012 and it has about 5-10 millions of downloads only at Google Play, when Grab founded in 2011 has 10-50 millions of downloads. The example – Uber, was founded in 2009 and it has 50-100 millions of downloads at Google play.

    How much does the uber app cost

    If you are feeling that it will be more convenient to delegate app development, then consider hiring a team of outsource developers. With outsourcing services you are not limited in a certain country only, as you can hire taxi app developers from any part of the world. A good idea is to study the resumes of the teams or visit their official websites. Quite often, they have client cases, where they talk about tasks they got and how did they solve this or that problem.

    The payment models vary as well. Some developers will ask for a fixed price for taxi app development, while other companies prefer to work on a pay-per-hour model. In this case, another important factor that comes into play is time.

    How much does the uber app cost

    Time necessary for building a taxi booking application

    A taxi booking app consists of several modules and development of each component requires some time, which in turn affects the price. Since we are going to develop a native app (in fact, this is the best option for developing app like Uber), the versions for Android or iOS will require different amounts of time.

    A driver application includes fewer components, than a customer version does, so it requires less time. A development of a driver application with 3 or 4 main features may require 120-240 hours (for iOS) or about 200 hours (for Android).

    An application for clients features a lot more functions and it requires about 340-450 hours to develop iOS version or 360-430 to develop Android one.

    As it has been already mentioned, the time necessary for building an app determines the price, so you need to plan the app like Uber carefully, identify all you need to implement at the very beginning in order to avoid overpaying.

    How much does the uber app cost

    The hourly rates depends on the team of developers and countries. Let us compare the hourly rates of North America and Europe. Hiring programmers from the United States, you will need to be ready to pay about $80-$150 per hour. Therefore, the prices will be around:

    • An application for a taxi driver – $16,000 – $30,000
    • An application for a customer – $32,000 – $60,000

    Hiring a team from Europe, you will have to pay around $20-50 per hour. And the prices for the simplest version of app will be:

    Again, these are prices for an application with basic features only.

    Since the application deal with online payments, you need a perfectly secured system. It may increase the price and time necessary for taxi booking app development, but people tend to use well-protected software, especially if app is dealing with their credit cards. A custom payment system can increase the price, but it can be very effective.

    Remember, the app has to be tested-well before releasing. Beta-testing requires some additional time, but it provides developers with good feedback. It helps to check an app performance on different devices in order to see how it works. Of, course without testing you will save money and huge amount of time but consider the fact that no one wants to have an app that crashes every time they run it.

    It is impossible to ignore the quality level, especially when we talk about the expenses. Every company values its reputation so it always try to do its best in mobile app development. It especially becomes obvious when you start to work with the outsourcing company. That is why IT outsourcing services becomes extremely popular.

    How much does the uber app cost

    An application is a very important part, but it is still a part only. To make the app start producing the effect you need to work with the business strategy, start a marketing campaign (to tell people about the app and how it can help them), maintain the application (study feedback from customers, add new features and fix the bugs), etc.

    Creating of mobile app for taxi service is not fast and cheap, but thanks to proficient development app may become popular and consequently provide you with high incomes. Your ambitions influence the expenses too, so it is necessary to understand what you really need to do. A good idea is to study your competitors, choose an application you like and see what it offers to customers.

    how much does the uber app cost

    First and foremost, the cost of building ANY mobile app depends on its intended functionality, target platform and vendor hourly rates. That is why you can’t avoid building an MVP and preparing a comprehensive specification (though you can also trust the tasks to a reliable vendor in case you don’t have the required expertise and R&D facilities).

    Uber Passenger App

    • Login page (via email or social media account);
    • Calculator (the feature enables users to estimate the cost of a trip in advance);
    • Taxi booking interface (a page where passengers type in their location data and book a ride);
    • Messenger (communication with drivers);
    • Push notifications (to inform users on a trip and car’s status including the expected time of arrival);
    • In-app payments (via credit card);
    • Ratings and reviews (an opportunity to rate drivers on a scale 1 to 5 and access reviews generated by other passengers);
    • Ride archive (the section contains data on previous trips and provides the opportunity to book a ride on the same route in one click);
    • Split the bill (an option to split the cost of a trip with family and friends).
    A taxi app may have additional functions, such as free in-app calls, booking a ride with a particular driver, placing an order using voice commands and adding your number to the waiting list during rush hours.

    The driver app also has a login page and supports push notifications and messages. The extra functions include:

    • Driver profile;
    • Driver status (the feature is implemented within the profile section, enabling drivers to manage their schedule);
    • Navigation and route planning;
    • Price estimation;
    • Report generation (quick access to trip and payroll data).
    And yes, you (as a taxi services provider) also need a desktop or web-based content management app.

    50% of mobile app designers and developers confess their apps were rejected by publishers at least once. The competition on the mobile app market is really tough, too: by 2018, less than 0.01% of all mobile applications will see[1] commercial success. If you want to pull an Uber (and stick to your budget and project timeline, of course), you should decide on your app’s functionality before a single line of code is written and follow UX/UI latest trends.

    The UX/UI design (as well as business analysis) may take up to 200 man-hours.

    How much does it cost to create a mobile app like Uber: final estimate

    The key factor behind mobile app development costs is surprisingly not the target platform, novelty and complexity of your solution or the number of features you’d like to deploy.

    It is the choice of a software development company that will make or break your project.

    It will take you around 640 man-hours to build an app similar to Uber (bear in mind that we didn’t count the hours spent on a custom messaging service and desktop administration app). Now you need to multiply the hours by your vendor’s hourly rates.

    Thus, developing a mobile app like Uber will cost you $ 22 thousand at the very minimum.

    And don’t forget to save some cash on marketing: if you have plans to enter a competitive market, the sum would comprise 10-20% of your projected revenue.

    Starbucks Customer Loyalty App

    Ever since its opening in 1971, Starbucks has been revolutionizing the coffee-serving industry. The company became one of the first coffee chains to announce a loyalty program and build a mobile app. In 2012 Starbucks shared plans to spend $ 25 million on a mobile POS solution that will gradually replace credit and debit cards. This year, 21% of all Starbucks payment transactions have been made [2] on mobile, while the number of US My Starbucks Reward members has reached an impressive 11.1 million.

    Essential features:

    • User profile (integration with Starbucks gift card);
    • Payments;
    • QR code recognition technology;
    • In-app currency (gamification);
    • Built-in analytics (customer rewards monitoring);
    • Catalog;
    • Integration with MICROS Symphony POS solution;
    • Administration app.
    Although Starbucks reportedly invested over $ 30 million in their loyalty program solutions, you can actually build a similar app at a reasonable price.

    Our company has recently developed the Addzer customer referral system for a horeca startup. The system features two mobile apps (iOS and Android) and a promotional website [3] . Addzer users can scan QR codes in restaurants and cafés that participate in the program and receive bonuses for every purchase they make (as well as the orders made by friends they’d recommended the app to). The bonuses can be exchanged for snacks and free drinks.

    Addzer essential features:

    • User profile;
    • Social media integration
    • QR code recognition;
    • Web-based server;
    • Web administration application.
    As new features were constantly added to the scope, the project evolved over time and took almost 6500 hours to complete. Add mobile payments and the integration with a POS solution, and you’ll arrive at a figure close to Starbucks’ final project estimate.

    • Hardware (either an existing device equipped with smart sensors or a custom gadget; by 2020, consumer electronics will comprise just 0.2% of all connected devices out there; hardware solutions often consume up to 80% of an IoT project budget);
    • Infrastructure app (server- or cloud-based application which receives, processes and stores sensor data);
    • Mobile/desktop application (an app enabling users to access and manage IoT-generated data).
    Keep in mind that you can’t build an Internet of Things product for less than $ 50 thousand (a complex smart home solution which incorporates surveillance cameras, sensors and a universal hub might cost as much as $ 5 million).

    IoT app projects fall under three major categories:

    • Small. R-Style Lab has worked on a mobile application for a custom EKG tracker which captures the electrical signals running through a human body. Sensor data is then visualized in graphical form. The mobile app uses the OpenGL library to produce high-quality images in real time and is wrapped in a native container. The dev process took about 300 man-hours;
    • Medium. Companies that produce exercise equipment have recently coined the “Internet of Gyms” term to describe connected physical activity and asset monitoring solutions which have the potential to revolutionize the fitness world. Our customer (a company from San Diego) wanted to upgrade an existing tablet app for a stationary bike and make a transition to smartphones. The proposed solution features a content management system for iOS and Android applications, a database of 1.2+ thousand exercises, a user profile and built-in analytics. The project took 1 thousand hours to complete;
    • Large. One of US law enforcement agencies uses a custom mobile app which is integrated with multiple radiation detection devices employed at crime scenes. The app’s notable features include obligatory authentication, BLE module and report generation. It took 2 thousand man-hours to develop, test and deploy the application.
    In 2017 the global mobile application market will reach $ 77 billion. Inspired by Uber, RetailMeNot and Starbucks, companies often jump on the app bandwagon blindly and fail to deliver breakthrough customer experience. Before you start building your first mobile app, make sure to conduct proper market research, define your target audience and write comprehensive project requirements. Provided you address a reliable vendor , you’re most likely to succeed.

    Remember 30k is only for the frontend you still need a decent backend web service that would be able to communicate with android ios and driver/passenger and to also store data. i would say an uber app thats fully functional would be 300k minimum.
