State of Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget Software Testing Intern in Lansing , Michigan
This is a non-paid Internship opportunity. Compensation and benefits are not offered. This would be an opportunity to work with experienced Information Technology professionals and gain real-world experience in the field of Computer Software Testing and Quality Assurance.
We are seeking college students to be a part of our DTMB Customer Service supporting Treasury and Agency Services supporting DNR, DEQ, and the MDARD Business Analyst Team and work with Testing staff for two consecutive semesters. We are seeking students with Information Technology (IT) related majors, such as IT Generalist, Business Analysis, Computer Programming, or Software Quality Assurance. This internship opportunity consists of four (4) internship openings for the Winter/Spring 2018 Semester (January through April 2018). Interns will receive career development planning and will be eligible to apply for employment opportunities.
Verifying that components are in place to facilitate software testing
Reviewing and interpreting test plans, test cases, and test scripts
Executing test scripts for integration, system, and regression tests
Documenting and tracking software defects in approved tools
Preparing test reports
Working with Developers to re-test specific problem areas
Working with Business Analysts and Project Managers on issues related to testing
Assisting Business Analysts with Requirements Traceability
Candidates must be self-starters, work well in a team environment, and promote the integrity of the team and the Department. Candidates must also strive to cultivate positive working relationships and provide excellent customer service. Strong written and verbal communication skills are a necessity.
Testing staff play an important role in assuring that quality computer software is delivered for our clients use.
Our future vision for the Testing staff includes an expansion of responsibilities, and interns can leverage their newly-acquired knowledge in contribution to this effort while gaining valuable work experience.
Expected Time Commitment:
- Between 8 and 24 hours per week. Class schedules will be accommodated as necessary
- Please note selected applicants will work from the office located in Dimondale, MI at 7285 Parsons Dr., Dimondale, MI 48821 (The OP Center building in the State of Michigan Secondary Complex) or in downtown Lansing located at Constitution Hall , 525 W. Allegan St., Lansing, MI 48933. There is no city bus service to the office in Dimondale, MI but EATran public transportation is available
Required Education and Experience
This opportunity is open to students who are actively enrolled in an accredited college or university majoring in Business, Information Technology, or related majors.
No specific amount or type of experience is required. Required skills include:
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to receive, comprehend and communicate information and ideas clearly
